Description
Title: Sunrise Rose
This painting is appears to be an abstraction but its a photorealistic watercolor of a yellow rose viewed so close up that it becomes a sky at sunrise, or a bright tree fungus or maybe the peel of an orange fluttering your way. The image was captured at Butchart Gardens near Victoria, BC which his flower porn for plant lovers! More vivid blooms you can imagine confront you at every turn all healthy and in harmonious beds with other flowers.
I'm honored that Sunrise Rose was selected to be part of a large regional juried show at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art in the summer of 2023! Sunrise Rose was previously juried into the Northwest Watercolor Society show for the spring of 2021! NWWS.org. The painting is pure transparent watercolor on a full sheet of 300# Arches Cold Press paper. The image goes right through to the ragged deckle edges of the paper. It is mounted on archival foam core to reveal the deckle edges of the paper and framed with a contemporary white metal frame and plexiglass.
The art is professionally photographed which will make reproductions impossible to discern from the original painting other than the deckle edge of the painting which is part of the original art.

For the past ten years I've been painting flowers up so close that they envelope the viewer in their sensuality and rich color. I call these paintings Floralscapes. These Floralscapes, Watercolor Life Drawings and Sumi paintings can be seen on my fine art web site at http://sandyhaightfineart.com.
I was honored to win the gold prize as poster artist for the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in 2016 with my watercolor painting of a tulip bouquet.
In 2012 I qualified to be a signature member of the Northwest Watercolor Society (NWWS). This is earned by being juried into a select number of local chapter and international watercolor society shows sponsored by NWWS. The initials now follow my signature in recent paintings.
I’ve used watercolor and ink brush line in my illustration work for over 20 years, but in a much more controlled and predictable way. My artworks appear on book jackets, ads, posters, logos and packaging all over the country and Canada.
